History of the Boiling Springs Triathon
In the year 2005 several folks in the Carlisle area challenged themselves to complete a Sprint Triathlon consisting of a ½ mile swim, 15-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run. After searching for events in the local area, which also accommodated family schedules, it was decided they would create their own triathlon event. The first year was a trial event consisting of only 10 participants. The goal of this event was to learn the logistics of running an event of this nature, and see if this was something to be expanded upon for the future. The results were very positive!
In 2006 the event was opened to the public, and Project S.H.A.R.E. was identified as the charity to receive the proceeds from our event. A board of BST directors was established and planning for the 2006 event began in January. This event consisted of more than 60 total athletes (some individuals and a few teams). And a group of more than 30 volunteers was established to help complete the work necessary for a successful triathlon event.
